The ISO/RTO Council (IRC) is an industry organization that includes the seven Independent System Operators (ISOs) and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) responsible for delivering two-thirds of the electricity consumed in the United States to two-thirds of its population. The Council has recently completed the enclosed report highlighting the value of independent regional grid operators. This paper explains the core functions and key benefits of ISOs and RTOs.
